Greater British Columbia

British Columbia is the western province of Canada that joined the nation as its sixth province in 1871, borrowing its name from the Columbia district of the Hdson Bay Company. Along with the US states of Washington and Oregon, it forms the Pacific Northwest.

Though less than five percent of its vast Fraser, Okanagan Valleys and in Vancouver island) because of its mild weather. And GMO issues have been brewing here for years. Most recent development has been the Union of British Columbia Municipalities passing a resolution declaring itself as GMO free in their annual general meeting. This resolution is passed on to the provincial Government, for them to consider enacting necessary by-laws to enfore the will of the people. In that sense, BC has taken lead in the fight against GMO in Canada, and many other provinces have people that wish to learn from this development and might be contemplating a similar course of action.

Part of the theme behind the talk tour of the two scientists is to alert and educate the people about the harmful effects of the GMO business model - but the discussion that follows is to include what next issues - since there may be many that have already made up their mind about GMO being undesirable, but have not found a clear way to express their wish through the democratic procssbring meaningful change.

The western leg of the GE food talk tour has many events in this great province, and then some in Alberta. So, for sake of convenience, the lengthy itinerary has been broken is four sections : Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland, and Greater British Columbia, with the fourth group being Alberta.

Tour of this section starts with talk event in Kelowna, on November the 24th, and continues to Nov 29th at Revelstoke, before a short break. The trip restarts at Grand Forks in BC on the 5th of December and continues on to Kimberley, on Dec 8th. Then the group travels across the Rockies and into Alberta, which is covered in the next leg under Alberta. On completion of the Alberta trip, there is to be one last event in Kaslo, back in BC, on December 14, which is again covered in this section.

This section is under construction. Please click on the individual event names at left to check details.
