GMO whistleblower to reveal the science behind genetically engineered food at the Sooke Harbour House on Sunday, Nov. 17

Dr. Thierry Vrain, the former federal government research scientist turned Frankenfood whistleblower, will complete the first week of his Canadian speaking tour with a presentation in the Sooke Harbour House’s Potlatch Room on Sunday, Nov. 17.  His talk begins at 2 p.m. and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Admission is by a suggested $5 donation.

One of the nation’s leading authorities on genetically engineered food, the Comox Valley farmer and retired Agriculture Canada soil biologist will explain the history of genetically modified organisms and reveal the documented effects of GE foods on human health by citing the latest scientific studies.

Transition Sooke and Sooke Region Food CHI are co-presenting Dr. Vrain’s talk in association with tour sponsors Greenpeace Vancouver Local Group and the Society for a G.E. Free B.C.

The occasion will be Dr. Vrain’s third appearance in town over the last year. He spoke following an Awareness Film Night presentation of the film Genetic Roulette last November. And he returned in April to address delegates at the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities AGM held at the Prestige Hotel.

His public debate on April 13 with GE advocate Robert Wager helped delegates from 51 island municipalities come to unanimous consent when voting in favour of a petition to declare Vancouver Island a GE-free zone. The decision was cheered on by dozens of concerned Sooke residents who rallied outside the hotel that morning.
